Lebanon and the “civilized” civilization!
Elias Aoun
The leaders of the “civilized” Western hemisphere (Washington and some European countries) are stating that a cease fire in Lebanon requires first an agreement on a peace plan – as if one cannot think of a “peace plan” unless bombs are falling, as if the killing and slaughter of a nation has to continue until the “civilized” minds of some western leaders can come up with a “peace” plan, or as if these minds have a formidable record for “peace” planning.
The “civilized” world claims to discuss “what can be done to ease the suffering for civilians in Lebanon.” They claim to want to “ease” the suffering while they refuse to achieve a cease fire. Maybe, they are contemplating on “easing” the suffering by ensuring the killing of people instead of simply injuring them.
The “civilized” world “backs the idea of a humanitarian corridor to get help to the needy.” In other words, “we support displacing you from your village, your house, and then we express our civilization by allowing you access to humanitarian aid to wherever we displaced you to.” None of the “needy” needed their help if it was not for the “civilized” support for barbarism.
The “civilized” world states that “we did feel that Lebanon has been dealt a severe blow.” Imagine an Administration that “feels” the pain which it allows to be inflicted. Were not we promised a “compassionate” conservatism?
The “civilized” world lectures about equality, human rights, and the dignity of man. Then, it fails to equate the life of one to another, the freedom of one to another.
The “civilized” world wants to disband “terrorists” by utilizing the same methods that created these “terrorists” in the first place.
The “civilized” world which invaded Iraq under the pretext of eliminating weapons of mass destruction is now delivering weapons of mass destruction to Israel for its use against Lebanon.
The “civilized” world wants to bombard Lebanon to “diminish” Syria’s power in the country. Two countries, two people, with decades or even hundreds of years of history want to have their relations “diminished” by aerial bombardment – as if one could diminish U.S. influence in Canada by bombarding Montreal.
The “civilized” world, with all its influence and power, cannot broker a cease fire, cannot broker a simple exchange of prisoners. Lebanese and Israeli boy scouts will have better success if they conduct the negotiations.
Whether the “civilized” western world is a proxy to Israel, or whether Israel is a proxy to them, has become irrelevant at this stage. The mask that was placed on the face of their “civilized” civilization has fallen, and their criminality is too apparent to be masked again.
The “civilized” world sends its money and donations “to assist the Lebanese people in their suffering,” a suffering in which they themselves are the accomplice. If it were me, I would return their donations back to them.
Welcome to the “New Middle East.” They honestly said it will be “new” and never claimed that it will be “new and improved.” And welcome to the “new” civilization.
Finally, to the Lebanese facing the injustice of tyrannical foreign aggression, I remind them of the words of Gibran Khalil Gibran:
“You are like a flower that grows in the shade; the gentle breeze comes and bears your seed into the sunlight, where you will live again in beauty.
“You are like the bare tree bowed with winter’s snow; Spring shall come and spread her garments of green over you; and Truth shall rend the veil of tears that hides your laughter. I take you unto me, my afflicted brothers, I love you, and I contemn your oppressors.”
